Billion Dollar Bogus

Man busted with billion-dollar bills in US

The counterfeit money looked good, but there was one flaw: there is no such thing as a billion-dollar bill.

US Customs agents in California say they found 250 bogus billion-dollar bills while investigating a man charged with currency smuggling.

Tekle Zigetta, 45, pleaded guilty to three federal counts of trying to bring cash, fake bills and a fake $100,000 gold certificate into the United States in January.

Further investigation led agents to a West Hollywood apartment where they found the stash of yellowing and wrinkled one billion-dollar bills with an issue date of 1934 and bearing a picture of President Grover Cleveland.

"You would think the $1 billion denomination would be a giveaway that these notes are fake, but some people are still taken in," James Todak said, a secret services agent involved in the probe.

Bolivian Psytrance

Metzanima is a project created by Gonzalo Laserna and Alejandro Ahumada in 2003, which in 2004 turned into a solo project for Gon. Gon was born in Stockholm-Sweden but with Bolivian/Greek roots. Turning 14 he moved to Bolivia where he started as a Dj in La Paz mixing Goa/Psytrance. After 7 years in Bolivia he returned to Sweden where he studied sound engineering. At this point, Gon starts composing his own music and creates Metzanima.
In late 2004 Gon is back in Bolivia with new inspiration and starts to experiment new sounds.

At this point he meets Anselmo Portugal, a great Bolivian musician, together they fused Psytrance with Bolivian native instruments such as zampo?a, quena, toyo and charango, which took the traditional tunes to new levels. In March of 2005 Metzanima presented its first album "TransAndino" with a live act, in La Paz-Bolivia. At present time Metzanima resides in Stockholm and works full time making weird noises.

OMR

OMR are a newly-formed European duo who have entered into an already overpopulated musical space, that of electro-infused pop music. With so many groups currently vying for attention under the electropop moniker and with electroclash more generally being well and truly past its fad-of-the-moment prime, it's a wonder that these groups still continue to crop up.
Nonetheless, OMR are a fashionably late addition to the electro milieu. Some of the tracks on their Side Effects release tend to the more electrobreaky side of the electroclash spectrum while others tread into tech-house territory. Somehow, many of them end up sounding the same, perhaps because most of them depend on the same elements: moaning female vocals, uncomplex melodies and quirky samples.

Staccato, 16th note basslines littered throughout the album produce that classic electroclash feel. Four and eight bar progressions draw attention to the synthetic nature of the employed instruments. Dark and moody, a sorrowful element pervades the album and climaxes with tracks burning with an anthemic angst such as "The Door" and "Wholly."

The Stroj

THE STROJ - started to realize the idea of constructing an audio rhythmical machine. Their volition for distinctly physical musical access, oriented them into exploration of motion, that produces sound, and which brought them to the conclusion that traditional (i.e. serial manufactured musical instruments, won't fit the job. The alternative lied at the nearest waste yard: parts of dumped machines, empty fuel and chemicals containers, construction pipes and various screws, proved to be defiant enough to the strong strikes of sticks, hammers and chains.

They describe themselves in the third person as an ‘audio rythmical machine’, their performances are ‘urban rituals’ and they ‘call for the listener’s motoric action’.

Alexandroid

Alexandroid is one of the many recent Russians musicians contributing to the click house end of the electronica scene at the moment. Their music is distinct from this community, though, by its warmth and tunefulness, citing classical composers like Debussy and Satie amongst his influences. The track "Energy" from the album "False Starts" is a well-executed, if not ground-breaking selection of his most recent work.

On their concerts the artist demonstrate how does anti-lounge electronic music sound (anti-easy, jazzy): noise, techno, industrial, minimal and psychedelics.

Shiny Day

Have been listening to a lot of Tsuji Ayano (つじあやの)recently especially the Summer single entitled "Shiny Day". She's most famous for singing the song 風に成る (Kaze ni Naru). I find that its extremely hard, if not impossible to get her albums and singles outside Japan because her record label Victor Entertainment doesn't distribute her stuff outside Japan. But definately you can get Tsuji Ayano's imported CDs made in Japan from sites such as Yesasia and CDJapan at VERY expensive prices. I was really lucky to get a copy of "Shiny Day" really cheap from ebay. And i reckon that her new album "CALENDAR CALENDAR" is supposed to be very good, just can't wait to get my hands on a copy of it.

Primitive Animism

Nelson Martin (aka Chushen) and Bill Grasso (aka Cugin) grew up in the dance-heavy music community of early '90s Orlando Florida, a place where DJs were outnumbered only by tourists in mouse ears. Already avid record collectors and all-around studio scientists, Chushen and Cugin began performing at local events around the Sunshine State in 1997 and soon became a staple at local clubs and parties there. The duo's DJ sets and live performances are truly a must for the serious electronic music fan and are known to set both mind and body into a state of perpetual motion. Animism, their first full length, combines elements of breakbeat, ambient, downtempo, and electro into funky psychedelic soundscape aimed straight for the cerebellum.

Chushen and Cugin's tracks such as "Primitive Animism" do not belong to a specific genre as it oftens incorporates many organic sound samples and have much in common with the likes of The Future Sound Of London and Irresistable Force, sounding more like natural occurrences rather than controlled experiments.

A Better Place

Victor Davies' tracks feature a superb mix of latin vibes and evening jazzy mood. His tracks are very much similiar to the likes of other jazz contemporaries such as Kyoto Jazz Massive, Jazzanova and Fantastic Plastic Machines.

These mixes from Victor Davies’ new remix album presently by the best remixers takes his wonderful songwriter music directly to the dance clubs and once again demonstrate his creative potential.

Eucalyptus

Here's a musician who's based in Kanto area, Japan and uses ACID & Alesis ION to contruct most of the tracks. All the tracks are really unique and will most probably remind you of those early 90s game soundtracks. Many of the tracks have a light groove to it is extremely easy on the ears. A fine mix of all electronic genres including drum and bass, ambient, and breakbeat in all the tracks is what makes Eucalyptus' tracks truly appealing.

Hollis

Cinelux, a music projct from France is often described as 'metronomic rock', but this would seem to misrepresent their diversity of approach, which melds together hip-hop, jazz, electronica and post-rock into an appealing laidback brew.

The track "Hollis" from the album "Pardon My French" is predominantly filled with a post-contemporary lounge groove to it and includes a semi-instrumental chunk of fat hip-hop beats, meandering guitar samples and manipulated vocals: with overtones of dj shadow, cam and req, it's a promising start.

Passion

Just got loads of new stuff recently...Got Sigur Ros's () album for my friend, some stuff from Shpongle, Tsuji Ayano's Shiny Day, Nicola Cheung's 再不小心 and finally got Utada Hikaru's new single entitled "Passion". The cd includes and original version of the song "Passion" and another mix entitled "~After the battle~". The single also comes with a DVD of the MV of the song. This single is featured as the theme song Square-Enix video game "Kingdom Hearts II."

The theme is very mellow and sad, shown quite clearly from the opening synthesizer notes and Hikaru's ghostly vocals. Listening to the instrumentals alone isn't a rewarding experience as it is too dull and mediocre in some places and consists of some pretty poor use of the electronica genre, but placed with Hikaru's vocals, it seems almost flawless. The second track is split into two different sections — vocal and instrumental — each unique in style.
